Himalayan Pink Salt Blocks
These solid, Himalayan salt slabs can be used in an infinite number of ways. They can be
chilled in the fridge or freezer, used at room temperature and heated in the
oven up to 400°F. At any temperature, your Himalayan salt plate is the ideal
platter for the presentation and seasoning of just about any item. Many of the
world’s professional chefs and most exclusive restaurants are now using
Himalayan Salt slabs as plates to serve just about any dish including Kobe beef,
poultry, seafood, sliced fruit and vegetables and unsalted butter...the list is
endless!
Seasoning and Curing with your Himalayan Salt Plate
Himalayan salt blocks can be used as unique serving platters which will cure
and season many foods. Cooled or at room temperature your salt slab is perfect
for serving sushi and sashami. In addition to a unique and beautiful
presentation of your meal, the raw fish will begin to cure as soon as it is
placed on the salt. When cooled in the refrigerator it is the ideal serving
platter for fruits, vegetables, cheese, unsalted butter and today’s gourmet desserts which require a hint of salt.
Arrange thinly sliced carpaccio or sashimi on a cool pink salt platter and
serve. The food will cure as you watch. The pink salt will gently cook the
edges and add a hint of delicious unprocessed salt to any dish.
Searing and Cooking with your Himalayan Salt Brick
Salt is hygroscopic (it attracts and retains moisture). If you do not dry your block prior to use it can crack or explode during rapid heating. To protect your salt block and ensure it is completely dry prior to fully
heating we recommend placing the salt brick in a cool oven and slowly heating to
250°F. Remove your salt block from the oven and let it sit for
approximately 30 minutes. Now you are ready to safely heat your salt block
to 450°F. If prepared properly your pink salt block can withstand direct
flame and or electric heating elements.
After heating for 20 to 30 minutes, you can use your salt block straight out of the oven to sear light items such as
fish and thinly sliced carpaccio of beef. Lightly toss your vegetables, meats or
fish in oil and season. The heated rock salt will cook and delicately season your items at the same time.
Due to the dense property of Himalayan pink salt your block will cook with a
very even heat distribution and retain it's warmth for up to 40 minutes.
Care of your Himalayan Salt Block
Himalayan Salt is antimicrobial. As such, it naturally inhibits the growth of bacteria
and fungi which is why it has been used for centuries to preserve food. With
proper care each salt tile can be used repeatedly. Once your salt block has
cooled completely, simply use lemon juice and a damp cloth or soft brush to ensure the removal of all food
particles. Dry the salt rock thoroughly in a warm oven to prevent any
dissolution of the salt and seal it in plastic wrap until your next use. If
cared for properly your salt tile will
provide years of service.
